Support: Web Site Statistics - Definitions |
Your web site statistics report provides you with valuable information regarding the activity of your web site. Below are definitions of some of the commonly used web statistical terms. |
| |
Hits |
A Hit is considered to be any request for data such as a Web page, graphic file, CGI gateway or file. Each web site will produce more or less hits based on how graphically designed or not the site might be. This number is most likely to be one of the highest ones. It is usually greater than the Page or Visits number as every single file whether graphical, scripting, etc. counts as a hit. Not very useful when analyzing how many people have visited your web site. |
| |
Files |
Files are similar to Hits although this number will be less than hits as one file may contain a number of elements such as graphics, etc. that count as multiple hits. |
| |
Pages |
The total number of Web page requests made on the Web site for a particular time period such as day, week, month or range within recorded Web site history. Each viewed Web page counts as one page view. This number will often be less than the hits as one page may count as multiple hits because it may have a number or graphic files, etc. on it. |
| |
Visits |
Individual visitors for any day, week, month or range within recorded Web site history. Visits are tracked per IP Address and must register at least one hit to a .htm, .html or .cgi web page to be counted. This is the best way to generally judge how many unique, individual viewers are visiting your web site. This number will be less than page views as most visitors to your site will visit multiple web pages within your site. |
| |
Sites |
The number of web sites from which visitors have come to view your web site, or download an individual file, as opposed to entering your web site directly, i.e. your home page. |
| |
KBytes |
This is the number of kilobytes sent for any day, week, month or range within recorded Web Site history. The total movement of pages, images, files and CGI requests are counted. |
